Mastering Management develops participants' capability to effectively manage the uncertainty, complexity, and competing agendas of the local government sector.

The program explores various leadership styles and theories, as well as issues and challenges related to concepts associated with leadership. It further looks into how individuals, groups, teams, and partnerships interact in different contexts to address professional and community issues, and how qualities of leadership can occur to bring about progressive and transformational change at the local (team) and council level. The program explores current issues being experienced in the sector and practical experience is used to enhance learning. 

This highly engaging program strengthen the awareness and management capability of established managers with a focus on three core leadership development area:

  • Leading Self – growing self-awareness and personal capability
  • Leading Others - creating a culture that nurtures successful teams and partnerships
  • Leading in Local Government – leading within your organisation and the community

Participants will:

  • Understand how to apply ethical decision making that considers strategic implications when managing complex and diverse issues in local government
  • Increase their self-awareness and personal capability through deliberate reflective practice
  • Foster a supportive culture of high performance by actively setting and working to high standards and goals (developing team members through coaching, mentoring, and delegation)

Kerry Stubbings

Kerry is a leadership coach and mentor with over thirty years' experience in senior roles in Local Government, State Government and the not-for-profit sector. As a consultant and facilitator, Kerry specialises in leadership and team development, organisational coaching, strategic planning, policy and service reviews, with a primary focus on Victorian local government. An experienced and respected executive leader in local government, and Board Director, Kerry has skills in good governance and building collaboration between diverse stakeholders. 

Kerry is passionate about building successful and engaged organisations, where people, individually and collectively, are using their skills and creativity to achieve positive outcomes with communities.

Neil Middleton

Neil has over 30 years’ experience in organisational and people development and works with clients across the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors. Neil brings to his coaching and facilitation a rich and broad perspective informed by his previous roles in Melbourne Business School, BHP, Levi Strauss & Co., and Rover Cars.
