The Advocacy Special Interest Group is a safe and inclusive space for advocacy practitioners to share knowledge. Its mission is to develop a deeper understanding of advocacy practice by sharing and learning from one another.
In an environment of rate capping and cost-shifting, assisting others in the sector to accelerate the sector's maturity in the advocacy space and to develop a community of practice is essential.
This group focuses on:
Building a network of advocacy professionals in the local government sector
Sharing, learning, and supporting each other
Uplifting capability and maturity in advocacy practice.
This forum is not for sector-level advocacy like that of peak bodies like LGPro and MAV.
Anyone who leads advocacy work in councils, or whose role involves advocacy to other levels of government and funding bodies, is encouraged to join.
This Special Interest Group is supported by an online community. We believe that accessing knowledge from individuals who work in a similar environment is invaluable and should never be underestimated. Our communities are only for people working in Local Government and there are many benefits to participating in them. They are a great way to keep in touch in between meetings, by asking your fellow colleagues questions and sharing resources. You can also see who else is involved and get in touch with them quickly. Agendas, minutes, presentations and other resources will also be posted on the online community.
Please note that this Special Interest Group is a closed group, open only to employees of a Victorian Council with a LGPro Council Subscription.
