Core Financial Skills for Non-Finance Professionals is an online workshop designed to support local government officers without a finance or accounting background.
The workshop covers:
- Legislative obligations including officer obligations in relation to financial management
- Accounting concepts and terms including how to interpret financial concepts, terms, and definitions that appear in financial statements
- Financial documents including how to read a financial plan, budget, quarterly report, and audited statements.
This online workshop runs for three hours, from 9:30AM - 12:30PM.
The workshop includes simple pre-work which is shared prior to the workshop through the calendar invitation. It is recommended that an hour or two be set aside to complete this.

Facilitators
Mark Davies
Mark Davies is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years experience across the private and public sector. Mark has held a number of senior roles in Local Government including Chief Executive Officer.
Mark has since worked with Local Government Victoria in the design, development, and implementation of the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework, was a key author of the financial provisions of the Local Government Act 2020, was Commissioner on the Ararat Rural City Council commission of enquiry, and the Interim Administrator at Central Goldfields Shire Council.
