About the SIG

The Health & Wellbeing SIG reconvening, thoughtful & beneficial discussions around the 2017 Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan

The Health and Wellbeing SIG discusses health related issues and works together to develop and deliver Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Planning priorities, health promotion and initiatives such as healthy eating, physical activity, smoking, alcohol and drugs, mental health and family violence.

The diverse group also promotes ways to reduce injuries and absenteeism internally whilst developing programs that will promote the health and wellbeing of their employees.

Who Should Attend

Local Government officers with responsibilities for developing and delivering health promotion initiatives, both internally and externally, and the development and implementation of Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plans.

Health & Wellbeing Online Forum

This SIG is supported by an online forum. We believe that accessing knowledge from individuals who work in a similar environment is invaluable and should never be underestimated. Our forums are just for people working in Local Government and there are many benefits to participating in them. They are a great way to keep in touch in between meetings, by asking your fellow SIG colleagues questions and sharing resources. Agendas, minutes and presentations will also be posted on the forum.

Health & Wellbeing SIG Convenor, Jaala Freer, Health & Wellbeing Officer, Mitchell Shire Council

I became a Convenor as I am the only Health and Wellbeing member of my team and I was keen to participate in a group with like-minded individuals. We are operating in an ever changing environment and with the elections and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan due to renew in 2017 and it is important that we work together and not in silos. At our first meeting, it was so valuable hearing from others and their Local Government stories. In the upcoming year our focus is on developing a network that can continue to share and learn from each other all things Health and Wellbeing both internally and externally.
