Family, Youth & Children's Services

About the SIG

The group discusses issues, policy and legislation and shares examples of best practice. Topical issues are discussed and service improvement initiatives are shared. A professional development conference, arranged by the SIG in conjunction with LGPro, is held every two years. The SIG meets every eight weeks. New members are welcome.

Who Should Attend

Managers, Coordinators and Officers in leadership roles working in the family, youth and children's services sector in Local Government. SIG meetings are for officers employed in Local Government only.

Family, Youth & Children's Online Forum

This SIG is supported by an online forum. We believe that accessing knowledge from individuals who work in a similar environment is invaluable and should never be underestimated. Our forums are just for people working in Local Government and there are many benefits to participating in them. They are a great way to keep in touch in between meetings, by asking your fellow SIG colleagues questions and sharing resources. Agendas, minutes and presentations will also be posted on the forum.

Family, Youth & Children's Services SIG Convenor, Linda Harman, Coordinator Community Engagement Programs, Darebin City Council

I have been attending the Family, Youth and Children's Services Special Interest Group for the last two years and over this time I have gained so much from the experience of colleagues in the group, the calibre and range of presentations and the opportunity to network with others in the sector more broadly. I hope as I co-convene this group with Judy Johnson that we can continue to build on the work that has already been established, provide an environment that we can explore current practice and issues, and together discover ways of improving outcomes for the families, children and youth in our communities.

Invitations to these meetings are sent to the network via Eventbrite. If you did not receive an invitation and wish to attend please email
