Managers in Local Government face the challenge of working in an organisational role that is often more complex, ambiguous and dynamic than that experienced by managers in other sectors.

LGPro's long anticipated Mastering Management Program aims to build the capacity and confidence of Managers working in the unique context of Local Government. Managers from numerous directorates and corporate services in Local Government, human resources professionals from across the sector and leading experts have had significant input into its development.

Mastering Management targets both new and experienced managers in Local Government who want to improve their managerial competencies so they can be the best they can be.

The highly engaging program sets out to grow the awareness and management capability of participants with a focus on three core development areas:

  • Developing personal excellence
  • Developing your people and
  • Managing in Local Government

The overriding aim of the program is to support managers in making a real transition in their thinking and actions so that they may positively impact their teams, their organisations and the sector.

The Mastering Management Program dates for 2018 are:

  • Introductory Session: Wednesday 18 April
  • Module One: Thursday 3 May & Friday 4 May
  • Module Two: Thursday 31 May, Wednesday 27 June & Wednesday 1 August

“I particularly enjoyed the interactive workshops and hearing from a diverse group of participants and guest speakers.  The program was a great opportunity to network with others in Local Government.  Along with several of the guest speakers, facilitators Peter and Renee were engaging and encouraging and made the program an enjoyable learning experience.  Following the program, I now concentrate on agreed priorities and where my focus should be and this has assisted in my delegation of work to others. This in turn has given my team a sense of being valued as well as taking on additional accountability and ownership.

"I found Renee and Peter’s facilitation and mentoring to be perfect for our group – they each brought their own style and were generous with their time and knowledge.  The speakers and presenters we had each month were spot on too, with both skills and knowledge based sessions, matched with Local Government leaders, who put their own stories to us – often (bravely) warts and all – and proved time and again that if you are open to the challenge, working in Local Government will reward you with personal and professional growth."

“The facilitators, Pete and Renee, provided a good mix of theory and practical applications. They were always upbeat and kept the conversations rolling and engaged everyone at all times. Pete’s passion, in particular, was inspiring and his knowledge and experience provided opportunities to think differently.”
