An international exchange program for local government managers of First Nations heritage offering a chance to learn local government best practice and attend a local government conference in New Zealand.
LGPro is offering the opportunity for one member of First Nations heritage to participate in a unique professional development experience. In conjunction with Taituarā — Local Government Professionals Aotearoa (NZ), LGPro will support one member to attend the Taituarā Annual Conference which will be held on 9-11 September 2026 in New Plymouth, New Zealand. As part of this exchange, there will be a reciprocal hosting arrangement with a Taituarā local government representative.
This program is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australian managers who will participate alongside a Māori New Zealander manager in exchange. The program recognises the vital role of partnerships with First Nations people in local government decision-making, celebrates the contributions of First Nations leaders, and provides a platform for sharing experiences and perspectives.
The exchange offers a unique opportunity to explore the challenges and priorities facing local governments in New Zealand, along with their strategies and best practice approaches for partnering with Indigenous communities. The program also supports the development of your skills, competencies, and knowledge, enabling you to bring valuable insights back to your organisation.
